( the thing about being drunk, for Kate, is that it makes it hard to keep her expressions under control as she would while sober, so the smirk that spreads across her face is a bigger, more obvious thing than it would be otherwise. )
So. Tell me summat. ( ugh, words are so much harder after too much booze. ) 'Bout you.
[Well, that smirk is encouraging, so Klaudia is going to chime back:] Extremely lucky you~
[Though the request for something about herself lessens her good mood just a bit. Not telling people anything about herself is practically a compulsion at this point, but there's plenty of things to talk about that don't involve the plenty of things she doesn't want to talk about... At least the bartender handing over her drink gives her a moment to think while she takes a sip of it.]
Something like what? That's a pretty vague ask. I need to know what sort of criteria you're looking for.
( well, Kate's version of avoiding talking about herself is to get other people to talk about themselves. so this could be... a time.
but the good thing? Kate knows nothing about this woman but her name and the fact she came to meet a drunk stranger because why not. so there's plenty to ask about.
( huh, come to think of it, she hasn't seen much of either yet. maybe she does know too many fellow kinetic users. but light magic certainly sounds like it would have its uses — at least in the way Kate is used to thinking of things — and she makes an approving noise at the demonstration, eyes widening slightly.
as for alchemy... )
That's... that one that turns shit into other shit, right?
( not like shapeshifting, or really... any power she's known back home. it's hard to even think of an equivalent, honestly. )
Yeah--and molds things that already exist. Do you wanna see?
[She dispels the light magic by clapping her hands together, and (without even waiting for an answer) starts reaching for one of the napkins at the bar.]
[She looks up from the circle she's already drawing onto the napkin, surprise in her expression--shifting to excitement. Well, change of plans. Now she just gets to show off.]
Okay, okay. Watch this, then...
[She starts filling in symbols around the edge of the circle, marking out the exact transmutations that she wants to occur. Then she places her wine glass (still partly full of wine) into the circle.]
[She gives one more glance to Kate with a grin, and then touches the edge of the circle. A flare of magic goes through the writing, and then up through the perfectly ordinary wine glass. The stem seems to twist, molding into a compact corkscrew, while a frosted pattern spreads from the rim halfway down the bowl.]
[When the magic is spent, Klaudia looks back to Kate and picks up the now fancy glass to take a very cheeky sip.]
( magic is not a surprise, really. not after so many years of seeing the weird shit people signed up for back home, but she's hammered and alchemy isn't anything like anything from home. or really like anything here either.
it's enough to surprise her, eyes widening as she squints at the thing, as though she can pick out the illusion if she stares hard enough.
obviously that isn't happening. )
... Damn.
( she's not sure she could use it, definitely not right now, but that... )
... You do that with anything?
( there was supposed to be a can in there, but it's mostly just a slurred noise. )
Most anything! I mean, theoretically. I can manipulate metals and wood pretty easily... Glass is newer for me, but it's not really much of a step up.
There's a single symbol for that one--[She gestures to a part of the sigil she just drew that looks like an infinity symbol with an upside down cross underneath.]--unless you're making it from sand, and then you have to use the component symbols, too.
( she's drunk, and it's late, and this is kind of fascinating, but even so, her mind (her heart) still finds the thought it always does:
Marc would be good at this. it's scientific. mathematical. all the nerdy shit he excels at.
and once again, she feels that empty spot beside her. sure, it's not like they got to be physically close all that often in the last decade or so, thanks to work, but she'd never been without him the way she is here. he was always somewhere. back home, studying, getting his own job. complaining that she doesn't need to use her wages to support him, he can get a part-time job while studying (no you can't, dickhead, you're on track for a first and I'll kick your ass if you get a 2:1).
he would be good at this. at so much of it. )
... Too much like learnin' for me. ( is all she manages to say, tucking that ache back down inside of her once more with another, too large, drink of something that burns. )

[To demonstrate, she holds her cupped hands out in front of her, and a small light about the size and brightness of a candle flame forms.]
